But if you’re intrigued by the supernatural, keep reading—I’m about to take you through an unforgettable haunted house experience: Visiting Mystic Manor, High River.
I love exploring in and around my hometown of Calgary. Doing things like a day hike just outside the city or visiting Canmore or Banff. But if you are looking for something to do that is different, head south. How to Get to Mystic Manor from Calgary
Mystic Manor is about a 40-minute drive south of Calgary. To get there, take the #2 South to High River, and once you’re in town, head toward the High River Cemetery. The house is just 1.5 blocks from this historic site, making it easy to find if you’re looking for a spine-tingling adventure.
The Haunted History of Mystic Manor
The house, known as the “Superman House” due to its appearance in Superman III, was constructed in 1905 by Robert Henry Robertson and his wife, Emma Jean, along with their seven children. They built the $5,000 home around a farm, and the house has changed hands over the years. It has since become known for its haunted past. In 1982, the house gained international fame when it was used as a movie set for Superman III.
Over the years, visitors and locals have reported ghost sightings, most notably of Emma Jean Robertson and her son Brodie, who died at the age of 22 in the house. Emma Jean is often seen on the first floor landing on the staircase. She is known to be a friendly ghost to women, but not so much to men.
The host of Mystic Manor, Faye Steinberg, a psychic medium, brings a lot of experience, knowledge, and a deep passion for the paranormal. She is not just a tour guide—she’s a true believer in the supernatural, with credentials and experience in ghost hunting that make her an expert in the field. Faye’s connection to the house and its ghostly inhabitants adds an extra layer of authenticity to the tour. The stories she shares about the experiences she has had, as well as the visitors, is very interesting!

Paranormal Experiences at Mystic Manor
During my visit, things got spooky. I witnessed an orb flying across the room and heard two bangs—one in the school room and another outside the door. My friend also had some eerie experiences, where she was poked hard in her back, in the medical room, as well as losing her balance and feeling ‘off’ a few times. She even experienced some foul smells in some of the rooms.
The host said that we had a ‘presence’ following us the whole time throughout the tour. We even walked out of a room, only to find a door that had been closed was now open. The crystals in the picture below were constantly moving the whole time we were in this room.
And make sure don’t forget to say hi to “Tommy” when you visit the Doll Room. It’s the kind of place where strange things happen that you can’t explain. I don’t want to share too much of my time there, because everyone will have a different experience and stories to tell after.
Ghost Hunting Equipment at Mystic Manor
One of the coolest parts of the tour is the ghost-hunting equipment used throughout the house. Here are some of the tools that help detect paranormal activity:
